Form FighterMethodology
What Form Fighter can and cannot measure
Form Fighter gives best-estimate coaching from visible motion: film or practice a strike, see one visible thing to improve, and run the next rep with more clarity. It does not measure power, contact, or fight outcomes.
Direct answer
A phone camera can help you review visible movement patterns in solo striking practice. It cannot measure force, bag contact, opponent behavior, medical safety, or exact 3D joint angles. Form Fighter is built around that honest ceiling: one visible correction, then a clear next rep.
What standard camera feedback can help you review
- Visible strike path and direction on screen
- Relative extension of the punching hand or kicking leg
- Return and recovery to guard or base
- Guard position before and after the shot
- Elbow or knee bend when those joints are visible
- Chamber before a kick extends
- Relative kick-height bands and upward rise when framing allows
- Selected visible arc or path cues on the screen plane
- Quality-gated visible turn proxies when the clip is clear enough
What standard camera feedback cannot reliably measure
- Power, force, impact, bag contact, or target penetration
- Opponent behavior, sparring effectiveness, or fight IQ
- Medical safety, injury risk, or injury prevention
- Universal perfect form or lab-validated biomechanics
- Exact 3D hip yaw, exact heel-pivot angle, or exact distance
- Weight transfer through the floor
How to get a better read
- Full body in frame — head through both feet
- Clear light on you, not behind you
- One fighter clearly dominant in frame
- Visible feet through the whole strike
- Short clear reps or a short round
- Side-on framing when depth matters (kicks, hips, upload rounds)
For upload, film a short side-on round with your whole body and feet in frame. Square-on clips hide depth that a single camera needs. For live punches, a slight ~45° angle usually reads better than dead-on.
How Form Fighter handles uncertainty
Metrics can be omitted. Feedback can be degraded or marked unreadable. A clearer clip may be requested instead of inventing certainty. Weak or ambiguous evidence is refused, not guessed.
Enhanced movement review
Enhanced movement review is available for supported sessions when eligible. Standard camera feedback remains focused on visible movement patterns.
When available, enhanced review still cannot turn a phone camera into a force meter or a medical device. Treat it as a richer visible-motion film path for eligible sessions — not a guarantee that every upload becomes a 3D report.
Safety
Form Fighter is a training aid. Scores are estimates from a phone camera and can be wrong — especially with poor lighting, framing, or angle. Warm up, clear space, and stop if something hurts. It does not diagnose injury or replace a qualified coach.
Can Form Fighter measure punch power?
No. Ordinary phone video cannot measure power, force, impact, bag contact, or target penetration. Form Fighter reviews visible movement patterns only.
Why does Form Fighter sometimes refuse to score a clip?
When evidence is weak, ambiguous, or more than one viable person is in frame, Form Fighter refuses or marks the read unreadable instead of inventing certainty. A clearer side-on clip with one fighter usually helps.
Is enhanced movement review the same as live camera practice?
No. Live practice and standard upload review use 2D visible-motion feedback. Enhanced movement review is a separate path for supported sessions when eligible. It does not run on every session.
Can a phone camera see exact hip rotation?
No. A single phone camera cannot verify exact 3D hip yaw or exact heel-pivot angle. At best it can use a limited, quality-gated visible turn proxy from the angle you filmed.
Does this replace a coach?
No. It is a solo-practice aid between sessions. It does not replace pads, sparring, clinch instruction, or a qualified coach in the room.
