Cross technique checks you can see on camera
A useful cross review on video focuses on a straight screen-plane path and a clean recovery to guard — not measured power. When the arm races ahead of any visible turn, the shot looks arm-only. Form Fighter can watch a cross in standard 2D live practice and grade a clear upload. Enhanced movement review may apply when eligible. This guide is mechanics, not a guaranteed automated grade.
What this strike is
The cross is the straight rear-hand punch. On film, judge the path and the reset. Do not treat “perfect hip yaw” as something a phone verified.
Solo crosses often look fine in a mirror and still loop or leave you open on camera. Path and recovery are the honest checks.
If you want to feel more rear-side involvement, treat that as an instruction cue — separate from what Form Fighter can measure.
How to film for a useful read
- Side-on or slight angle so the rear hand’s path is visible
- Feet in frame through the throw and recovery
- Isolated crosses before combining with jabs
Visible-motion checklist
- Fist travels on a straight screen-plane path, not a wide loop
- Chin stays down behind the shoulder line when visible
- Both hands recover near the face before the next shot
- Stance looks usable after the throw — not fallen off the line
Common mistakes
- Arm-only: fist arrives while the body stays square and still
- Wide looping path that reads as a slow hook on camera
- Chin lifting to “see” the finish
- No return — hand hangs out after the shot
Eight crosses, home to guard
Throw 8 crosses at a controlled pace. After each, both hands must be near the face before the next rep.
Visible success criterion: On film, the path stays relatively straight and recovery is visible every rep.
What a phone camera can show
- Whether the rear hand travels on a straight vs looping path
- Whether hands return toward the face
- Limited visible turn of the torso/hips as a quality-gated proxy — not exact yaw
What it cannot tell you
- Contact force or punch power
- Exact 3D hip yaw or heel-pivot angle
- Weight transfer through the floor
Safety and limits
Warm up before hard crosses. Stop if the shoulder or back complains. This is not injury-prevention advice.
Form Fighter’s role
Standard 2D live and upload feedback can watch a clear cross. Enhanced movement review may apply on eligible supported sessions. Instruction cues about “hips first” are not the same as a measured hip yaw.
Can Form Fighter measure my cross power?
No. It can review visible path and recovery. Power and impact are outside phone-camera measurement.
