What this strike is

The hook is a short arc punch. On camera, the elbow should stay behind the fist rather than leading into a slap.

How to film for a useful read

• Angle that shows the punching arm’s bend — often slight side-on
• Full upper body and head in frame
• Slow hooks first so the arc is readable

Visible-motion checklist

• Punching arm holds a bent-hook shape rather than a straight punch
• Arc stays short on the screen plane
• Opposite hand stays near the face through the throw
• Both hands recover to the cheeks after the arc

Common mistakes

• Elbow leading the fist — slap instead of hook
• Huge wind-up that lifts the chin
• Dropping the opposite hand
• No return after the arc

Eight slow hooks, shape first

Throw 8 lead hooks slowly. Freeze for a beat at the bent shape, then return both hands home.

Visible success criterion: On film, the elbow does not lead the fist and the opposite hand stays up.

What a phone camera can show

• Whether the punching arm holds a bent-hook shape
• Whether the opposite hand stays near the face if visible
• Whether the arc looks short vs wildly looping

What it cannot tell you

• Contact force or how the hook would land
• Whether liver or jaw would be open
• Exact rotational power
